Florida Residency Conference
The Florida Residency Conference (FRC) provides an opportunity for pharmacy residents, both PGY1 and PGY2, to formally present their original research to colleagues, while enjoying fellowship, and discussing important issues confronting pharmacy practice.
The conference offers a unique and welcoming environment for participants to exchange information and ideas with fellow residents and preceptors throughout Florida.

Resident Presentation Evaluation
Guidelines for Preparing a Fair and Balanced Presentation
The conference itself consists of several concurrent presentation sessions over two days. Each session is 60 minutes, 15 minutes allocated per presentation (3 presentations per session) with 5 minutes in between each presentation.
- Each presentation should last no more than 12 minutes, plus 3 minutes for Q & A
- 5 minutes is provided for speaker changes
- The session evaluator will provide feedback to the presenter after the presentation.
- Sessions are in 1 hour blocks and are per room. Sessions must be attended in their entirety to receive continuing education credits, partial credits are not provided.
- Please NOTE: There will NOT be Presenter View on screen during presentations.
- Please NOTE: Bring your presentation on a non-encrypted jump drive and also have it easily accessible in personal email.
Residency Program Directors
- To meet ACPE standards, each resident's presentation must be reviewed for content (before FRC) by the Program Director. The presentation will be reviewed for bias (during the actual presentation at FRC) by the session moderator.
- For each resident complete the FRC RPD Reviewer Form. Each resident will be required to submit this completed form when they submit their Final abstract information.
Residents
Each presentation should contain the following elements:
- Title (include your contact information- e.g. email address)
- Disclosure Statement
- Presentation Objective (for accreditation)
- Background slide
- Purpose
- Methodology
- Study Objective/Outcome
- Results
- Conclusion
- Acknowledgement
- Self-Assessment Question (present answer)
- Close with your title slide
Abstract Submission (NON-EIR)
All residents not submitting for EIR must submit their abstracts via Sched and include the following:
- Research title
- Limited to no more than 20 words (short, specific titles are preferred)
- Do not use proprietary (brand) names for medications
- Capitalize only the first letter of the first word in the title; all other words must be in lower case letters except in the case of acronyms or proper nouns
- Do not use "A”, "An” or "The” as the first words in the title
- Spell out all pharmaceutical acronyms and special symbols (e.g. Greek letters)
- Presentation objective (required for ACPE accreditation)
- Should reflect an answer to the question “At the end of the presentation, the audience should be able to...”. Please note that this is NOT an objective of your research project, per se, but an objective of your presentation at the FRC.
- Self-assessment question (required for ACPE accreditation)
- Should align with the objective of your presentation and assess the audience’s knowledge of a key aspect from the presentation.
- Can be multiple choice, select all that apply, or true/false.
- Resident name
- DO NOT include degrees or titles for any authors
- Resident email address (personal email is preferred due to institutional firewalls)
- Practice site

Overview
The Florida Residency Conference (FRC) Excellence in Research Award program was created with the intent of recognizing pharmacy residents for their innovative contribution of original research relevant to health-system pharmacy practice. One PGY1 and one PGY2 resident will be awarded annually.
Description of Award
Each finalist will receive an FRC Excellence in Research Award certificate. Honorariums will be determined each year by the FRC Steering Committee. Additionally, award recipients will receive a plaque.
Award Eligibility
- Current PGY1 or PGY2 resident at an ASHP-accredited residency program or residency program with candidate status for accreditation
- Research with a focus on the advancement of pharmacy or clinical practice
- Submitted FRC Excellence in Research abstract for current research project presentation by the deadline on the FRC website.
Application Requirements
In addition to all required information and documentation required for registration, consideration for Excellence in Research also includes the following upon Registration.
- Full abstract submission is required (MUST include results and conclusion)
- Body of the abstract is limited to 750 words (excluding objective and self-assessment)
- You may also choose to include up to a maximum of TWO tables/figures, these will be uploaded during abstract submission and are not included in the 750‐word limit.
- Abstract MUST include the following sections:
- Purpose/Background
- Methodology
- Results
- Conclusion
- Presentation Objective
- Self-assessment question
- MUST attach abstract as a portable document format (PDF), including any tables/figures. The PDF needs to be completely de-identified to not include the name of the applicant or institution.
- Multi-center study criteria:
- The resident must be an investigator at the primary site
- If the study sites are within the same healthcare system:
- Each institution must have a different IRB
- If the study sites within the same healthcare system have the same IRB, they will not be considered “multi-centered” for Excellence in Research
- Data from other study sites may only be included if the resident is the primary investigator for all sites
- The resident is responsible for compilation and analysis of ALL included data.
- Failure to meet all requirements may result in removal from consideration for the Excellence in Research Award

Selection Process
- Applications will be scored by a blinded review panel that has been selected by the FRC Steering Committee. The panel will utilize the (Excellence in Research Award Application Scoring Rubric).
- Up to six finalists (four PGY1 and two PGY2) will be selected to present their research at the FRC opening session. The EIR finalist panel will be selected by the FRC Steering Committee and will score each finalist utilizing the (Excellence in Research Award Finalist Scoring Rubric).
- One PGY1 and one PGY2 award recipient will be selected and awarded during the conference.
EIR Finalist Reviewer Qualifications
- Reviewers are not allowed to review the abstract of a resident from his/her institution
- Individual can qualify as a reviewer if he/she has adequate experience as either a researcher or as a journal reviewer
- Research Experience (meets one)
- ≥ 2 publications
- ≥ 5 poster or platform presentations of completed research at a local (organized sponsored event), state, national, or international meeting (participant in resident or student research team acceptable)
- Journal Reviewer (meets one)
- ≥ 2 years experience as reviewer for a peer-reviewed journal or as a reviewer of manuscripts or abstracts for a professional organization/committee (i.e. Society of Critical Care Medicine/Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacology section)
- ≥ 2 manuscripts reviewed
- Research Experience (meets one)
Opening Session
The Florida Residency Conference will kick off with an Opening Session on Thursday.
The Opening Session will consist of general announcements, a keynote speaker, and presentations from the Excellence in Research Award finalists. All attendees are encouraged to attend.
Moderator & Evaluator Preceptor Requirements
All registered preceptors will be requested to act as evaluators. Student volunteers will act as moderators. Preceptors may be asked to moderate select sessions if needed.
Moderators and Evaluators will receive instruction upon check-in.
Opening Session
The Florida Residency Conference will kick off with an Opening Session on Thursday. The Opening Session will consist of general announcements, a keynote speaker, and presentations from the Excellence in Research Award finalists. All attendees are encouraged to attend.
Resident Presentations
The conference itself consists of several concurrent presentation sessions over the two days. Each resident presentation is allocated 15 minutes (12 minutes for their presentation and 3 minutes for questions). There are 5 minutes between presentations to allow transition between speakers. Continuing education is awarded in 1-hour blocks for each session (total of 3 presentations per session). To qualify for CE, attendees must stay in the same room for the entire 1-hour session. A 10-minute break between sessions allows for easy transition from room to room.
Special requests for scheduling resident presentations are not accepted. Residents should plan to attend the entire conference to support fellow residents.

Attendees are recommended to download the SCHED app prior to conference arrival.
Meeting Evaluation
An electronic evaluation will be distributed to attendees at the start of the conference via email to evaluate the speakers and the program as a whole for accreditation and CE purposes. Attendees will have the ability to log in to the survey and evaluate presenters throughout the conference.

Although the parking deck is within walking distance (approx. 0.5 mile) of the conference location, conference attendees will have access to both the USF Bull Runner buses (Route B, Blue Line) and also a Charter Bus will be running back and forth (every 7-10 minutes between the hours below) from the Laurel Parking Deck to the USF HEALTH WELL. Charter bus will indicate "Florida Residency Conference".

Q. What is the refund policy for the registration fee?
A. Canceled registrations will be refunded based on the following scale:
- Canceled > 4 weeks prior to FRC: 100%
- Canceled > 3 weeks prior to FRC: 75%
- Canceled > 2 weeks prior to FRC: 50%
- No refunds will be issued at two weeks or less prior to FRC
Q. As a preceptor, am I expected to be an evaluator?
A. Yes, all residency preceptors are expected to evaluate a session. If your role prohibits acting as an evaluator, email the Steering Committee Chair.
Q. What are the expectations of an evaluator?
A. Evaluators attend the presentation and utilize forms to provide presenter’s constructive feedback. Feedback is provided immediately after the presentation.
Q. Is experience required to serve as a moderator or evaluator?
A. No.
Q. Will I be scheduled to evaluate during my resident’s presentation?
A. The schedule is arranged so you are able to attend your resident's session.
Q. How can I find the session I’m evaluating?
A. Review the conference app prior to attending the meeting. The conference agenda, resident presentation schedule, and evaluator schedules will be available under the Conference Schedules tab in May.
Q. What if I am unable to moderate/evaluate my assigned session?
A. We understand. Please let us know ASAP so we can identify an alternative. It is important to report the conflict in advance of the conference to the Steering Committee Chair.
Q. Is one-day FRC registration possible?
A. No, only full registration is available.
Q. Can residents select the date/time of their presentation?
A. No, residents should plan on participating in the entire conference in support of their fellow residents. Special requests for scheduling of resident presentations are not accepted. If a resident has extenuating circumstances, please contact the Steering Committee Chair as soon as possible.
Q. Do residents need to submit their presentation prior to FRC?
A. No. Residents are not required to submit presentations prior to the conference, but please have presentation on a jump drive and easily accessible in personal email.
